Charter Oak Dedication

Dedication of the Bicentennial Charter Oak given to the Worthington Schools by the Worthington Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in honor of the nation's Bicentennial in May 1976 is shown here. The history of the famous Charter Oak was told by the Worthington High School Student Council President, followed by the formal presentation of the Bicentennial Charter Oak by the Worthington DAR Chapter Regent, Betty Lane, pictured here. Soil from the site of the Connecticut Charter Oak and soil from the DAR headquarters in Washington DC was sprinkled at the base of the tree, then water from the Olentangy River was poured over the roots. The ceremony was concluded with the singing of "Trees" by the Worthington High School choral group.
