Background

This certificate of labor performed by Gay Asbury for the Village of Worthington pertained to work done on public roads in September 1897. On September 3, 1897 the Worthington City Council approved the expenditure of $250.00 by the Street Committee for repairing, grading, and macadamizing of State and Main streets (now known as Dublin Granville Rd. and High St. respectively). Norman Gay Asbury (b. 1874, d. 1944) lived and worked in the Worthington area as a carpenter/fitter. He was a veteran of World War I. He was listed in the 1910 census as living with his mother, Anne W. Asbury (b. 1843, d. ?).
