Background

The Maynard homestead is pictured here, located on the land where the Village of Riverlea exists, south of Worthington. During the 19th century Riverlea's land was part of the outlying farms of Worthington. Part of the area was known to be the farm of Moses Maynard. The Moses Maynard farm extended west to the Olentangy River and east well beyond what is now High St. Moses Maynard Sr. (b. 1755, d. 1834) migrated to Ohio from Massachusetts and purchased the land in 1806. Moses Sr. conveyed the land to his son Moses Maynard Jr. prior to his death. Moses Maynard Jr. died in 1862. A map dated 1883 lists the land as belonging to A. M. Noble.
