Homer Aleshire
Basic details
Background
Homer Aleshire (b. 1885, d. 1959) is pictured on the job outside Worthington Elementary and Junior High School, which is currently Kilbourne Middle School. Mr. Aleshire worked as a janitor for Worthington Schools for 29 years. He was married to Nelle Aleshire (b. 1887, d. 1970). In 1934 he was appointed by the Mayor of Worthington to be a special police officer with the power to arrest all violators of the local traffic code. This was in response to concerns of the P.T.A. and other local organizations that boys and girls under the age of 16 should not be driving cars. At the time the State of Ohio had not yet passed legislation prohibiting children under the age of 16 from driving automobiles.
