Installing Computers During the Northwest Library Construction
Basic details
Background
A worker is shown here preparing to install computers at the Northwest Library. Groundbreaking for the library construction took place on September 13, 1994, and the library opened its doors to the public on April 16, 1996. The Northwest Library was the first library in Ohio and only the second in the country to be built and operated by two library systems, which were the Worthington Libraries and the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
In 1996, the Worthington Libraries began offering “Cyberschools” at both of its locations, the Old Worthington and the Northwest libraries. These classes taught attendees computer basics, from turning on a computer and using a mouse to searching for information online. One of the most popular Cyberschools offered was “An Introduction to the World Wide Web.”
