Albaugh & Pickering Store

This photograph shows three men standing in front of the storefront of the Albaugh & Pickering store, located at 81 North High Street in Columbus, at the intersection of High and Gay streets. The store served as a jeweler's as well as a watch and clock repair shop. One of the proprietors, Edwin Albaugh, lived on Kenyon Brook in Worthington. None of the men in the photograph have been identified.

Edwin S. Albaugh was born in 1869 to Benjamin and Priscilla Albaugh and worked as a watchmaker and jeweler. During his career, Albaugh invented the first ball-bearing clock and the largest watch in the world, which measured three feet and weighed 320 pounds. He also kept diaries that provide insights into his professional life as well as events in Worthington. He was married to Maude A. Albaugh and died in 1948.
