Background
This photograph of Gordon and Virginia Silcott was taken at the celebration of their 60th anniversary. A party was held May 1st, 1981 at Stouffers University Inn .
Gordon Silcott (b. 1894, d. 1984) was born in Nelsonville, Ohio. He served in World War I. He married Virginia Reed on April 30th, 1921. After attending Ohio University, he moved to Central Ohio where he started the Worthington Coal and Supply Company. Silcott served as president and general manager until his son, George Silcott, Jr., took over the business. He also was involved in numerous civic activities including serving as the first president of the Worthington Businessmen's Association and being active with the Chamber of Commerce.
Virginia Reed Silcott (b. 1895, d. 1983) grew up in Nelsonville and came to Worthington with her husband Gordon. She was active in many civic groups as well; she served as president of the Worthington Women's Club at one time and was the first corresponding secretary for the newly founded Worthington Historical Society in 1955.
The Silcotts built the home at 44 West New England Avenue in 1928 and lived in the residence for over four decades.
