Background

Pictured here is PFC Thomas Richard Carlisle (b. 1926, d. 1991) during the time he served as a Marine. The image came from the photo album of a Worthington High School classmate, Kenneth Storer. Carlisle was the son of Elton and Pauline Carlisle, who lived on Chase Avenue. He attended Homedale and then was a member of the class of 1944 at Worthington High School for most of the four years of high school. He was on the football team for two years, served as the manager for the basketball team and was a member of the Hi-Y Club.

Carlisle finished his high school education a semester early to enter the service on December 20th, 1943. The June 1944 "Worthington News" recounted that his father received his diploma at the graduation ceremony on his behalf to heavy applause. During his time in service during World War II, Carlisle was attached to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex.

Carlisle was married in 1946 to Doris Zieman, and moved to the west coast around 1950. He died in Oregon in 1991.
