Background
Harold Gloyd (b. 1908, d. 1929), pictured here, was the son of Elmer and Katherine Gloyd. He was raised with his sister Ellen at the home at 119 E. Granville Road. Harold attended Worthington Schools and graduated from Worthington High School in 1926. He was employed by his uncle, Samuel E. Corbin in the undertaking business after high school.
In March 1929, Harold Gloyd and friend and classmate Paul Wager were killed in a plane crash in Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania after the airplane encountered fog flying from Columbus to New York. Details of the fatal crash were reported in the March 28th, 1929 Worthington News. A joint funeral for the two boys was held, and Gloyd was buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
