Background

This pictured shows the profile of Cornelia Vest at the time of her graduation from Worthington High School in 1904. Cornelia was the third daughter of Winfield and Cornelia Vest. She married Samuel Ellis Corbin in 1906.

According to an oral history, as a young girl Cornelia would go uptown to get the evening paper and kept seeing Sam Corbin, who worked as an undertaker with Frank Goble. They met at a dance at Van Loon's hotel, the Hotel Central (now known as the Worthington Inn). The couple's first date was to take the Columbus, Delaware and Marion Interurban to Glenmary Park.

As an adult, Cornelia was an active member of the Worthington community. She bought the Worthington Inn in 1936 and was a member and former organist of Worthington United Methodist Church as well as a trustee of the Worthington Library. She was also made an honorary life member of the Worthington Historical Society.
