Worthington City Schools Progress Report

This is a report card for a student of Evening Street Elementary School, received at the end of the school's first year in its newly constructed building. Evening Street Elementary students attended school in overflow classrooms for several years prior to the opening of Evening Street Elementary School in 1963. In 1962 a 5-year building program was formed by the Worthington Board of Education to accommodate projected growth in the school district, an estimated 1400 new residential homes by 1967. The number of high school students would increase and expected to take over the junior high building (Packard Annex) where most of the Evening Street students attended classes. Worthington Junior High School would relocate to the Worthington Elementary School (Kilbourne Middle School). The shift necessitated immediate construction of Wilson Hill Elementary School (1962), followed by Evening Street Elementary School (1963), and Brookside Elementary School (1965). The construction of over 700 new homes in Worthington Estates led to the construction of Worthington Estates Elementary School (1966). Children living in the Worthington Estates area attended Evening Street Elementary School during the 1963-1964 school year.
