Obituary

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the McCardell-White Funeral Home for C. Charles Butterfield, 76, of 378 Hazelwood S.E., who was pronounced dead of a heart ailment Saturday night at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Mr. Butterfield was born August 22, 1910, in Marathon, New York, a son of John and Ida Jennings Butterfield, and came here from Canton 22 years ago. He worked 35 years for the W.T. Grant Company, retiring as a store manager in 1967, and was an employment counselor for Snelling and Snelling for 10 years after that. He had also worked for the McCardell-White Funeral Home and Miller Florist. He was a member of Tod Avenue United Methodist Church where he served on its Council of Ministries and Administrative Board. He was a member of the United Methodist Men, Men's Prayer Group and Nixon Class of the church, and served as co-leader of an adult Sunday school class. He was a member of Kiwanis International for 35 years, and in 1983 was granted life member status by Warren Kiwanis in recognition of his contributions to Kiwanis and the community. He was a volunteer for Mobile Meals and was a graduate of Colgate University. Besides his wife, Dorothy (Gebhardt), he leaves a son, John A. of Worthington; a daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Armstrong of Darien, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Ina Ketelsen of Gadsden, Ala.; and five grandchildren. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the church.
