Background
This is one of a series of informational cards created by the Linworth United Methodist Church and Historical Society sharing the history of Bill Moose and the Wyandot Indians in Central Ohio. It includes quotations describing the execution of Wyandot Chief Shateyaronyah, known to European settlers as Chief Leatherlips, on June 1, 1810. Shateyaronyah signed a treaty with the settlers, angering his fellow Wyandots as well as the Shawnee chief Tecumseh. As a result, he was sentenced to death and executed in Powell, at the site of the present-day Scioto Park where a large stone sculpture now stands in his memory. The card includes a photograph of his grave marker.
