SACRED
to the
MEMORY
Of
ABEL JONES ESQ.
of Bristol, Rhode Island,
who died
September 30th, A.D. 1815.
aged XXXVIII years.
A painted bubble, glittering in the beam;
Such is our Life. A breath its form destroys.
Ask ye for proof? Out of this grave shall gleam
Conviction's light. The richest joys,
Youth, health & vigour, fortune, friendship, LOVE,
A heart (now torn with grief) on him that thought
Unceasing: all were his; who now doth prove
The secrets of ETERNITY, Pilgrim, thy
time is short!
