Alexander Viets Griswold Engraving
Basic details
Background
This is an engraving of Reverend Alexander Viets Griswold, who became bishop of the Eastern Diocese of the American Anglican Church in 1811. He was four years older than James Kilbourn when he met the young worker on Elisha Griswold's farm near Simsbury. He tutored young Kilbourn in Latin, Greek, spelling, and mathematics, providing him with the skills necessary for accounting and surveying. One of Alexander V. Griswold's brothers, Ezra, migrated to Worthington following Kilbourn in 1803. The caption on this engraving reads "J. C. Buttre The Right Rev. Alex. V. Griswold, D. D. Bishop of the Eastern Diocese".
