Background

This program documents the dedication ceremonies for Congregation Beth Tikvah at 6121 Olentangy River Road. Beth Tikvah had occupied a building at 3199 Indianola Avenue since 1968. It became too small to accommodate the congregation and the search began for a new place. The Congregation acquired a lot on Olentangy River Road in a residential neighborhood that became the site of the new building. The groundbreaking for the new synagogue building was held on September 9, 1979. The entire congregation was encouraged to attend. There was a gasoline shortage at the time, so congregants were urged to carpool. The dedication of the new building on Olentangy River Road took place on November 16, 1980. The first event in the celebration was a march from the old building on Indianola Avenue in Clintonville, through the Park of Roses and Antrim Park to the new site. The marching congregants carried the Torah.
