The Ferris and Wilcox Cemetery Schematics: A Link to the Past
Basic details
Background
This report regarding the WPA cemetery surveys of Ferris Cemetery, located on the east side of Riverside Drive south of Bright Road and Wilcox Cemetery, located on Ohio State University property west of Godown Road (adjacent to Don Scott Airfiled) was compiled by David Martin. He is a member of the Linworth Historical Society, whose members have discovered and worked to preserve several local pioneer cemeteries in northwest Franklin County since 2002. This report tells how the Wilcox and Ferris families were integral to the early history of Linworth United Methodist Church, originally the Elmwood Church (Bright's Chapel) built in 1889. It was named Bright's Chapel in honor of Rev. Samuel bright, the church's Circuit pastor at the time. Many Methodist Episcopal churches in northwest Franklin County were served by one pastor, known as a circuit riding preacher. This Worthington Circuit began in 1823 and recently as 1956.
