Marian Stearnes, Rachel Alexander and Library Volunteer at Wedding at the Old Worthington Library
Basic details
Background
This color photograph shows, from left to right, Marian Stearnes, librarian Rachel Alexander, and an unidentified library volunteer on the main level of the Old Worthington Library for Alexander's wedding, May 8, 1982. Stearnes and the volunteer are seated and eating cake, while Alexander kneels between them smiling. The three are in the far southeast corner of the building, and bookshelves line the walls behind them.
At the time, the Old Worthington Library was the only location of Worthington Libraries. Alexander's wedding to Bob Foulk took place that evening after the library closed, with food provided by staff and Worthington mayor Lawrence Braun serving as officiant.
Alexander worked for Worthington Libraries from 1976 to 1985, and again from 1997 to 2008; during that time she served many roles, including community services librarian, children’s librarian, youth services manager and youth services materials selector.
Stearnes served as a nurse in World War I, and had attended school at Western Reserve University, the precursor to Case Western Reserve University. The volunteer pictured delivered books to Stearnes as part of the library's homebound program.
