Background

This postcard depicts Sharon Township Hall, located at 67 East Granville Road. Constructed in 1856, it was the first union school in Worthington. The land where it is located was originally part of the acreage set aside for St. John's Episcopal Church by Worthington founders. The school district board purchased the lot behind the church in 1856. The school building provided two rooms on the lower level and an area for public gatherings on the second floor. The building was sold to Sharon Township in 1870 and was subsequently used as a town hall.

The I.O.O.F. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) bought the second floor and half of the lot in 1873.

In 1944 the building was again used by the school district out of a need for additional classroom space.

In 1975 the building was sold at auction to St. John's Episcopal Church.
