Background
A view of St. John's Episcopal Church of Worthington decorated for a Harvest Home Service around 1901, showing the original interior. Construction of St. John's probably began in 1827; the first service was held in the church in 1831. Arora Buttles, local brickmason and church trustee, almost certainly had a hand in the construction of St. John's. The building's raw materials of brick, stone and native hardwoods are of local origin. The original altar and stained glass window shown in this image were moved in a 1917 remodeling. They are in use elsewhere in the church today.
